JH Boys Track Meet

This year at the Ponder Junior High track meet, both 7th and 8th grade boys finished 2nd overall, competing against Sanger and S&S.

In triple jump for the 7th grade boys, Terrize Mills placed 1st with a distance of 33 feet, Greysen Fox placed 3rd with a distance of 28 feet and 10 inches, and Ryder Dugger placed 5th with a distance of 27 feet and 8 inches. For the 8th grade boys, Nolan Durrett, Jayden Villarreal, and Bryson Smith all competed but didn’t place. 

In the high jump for 7th grade, Jordan Weiland and Kyle Perryman both competed, but didn’t place. In 8th grade, Shawn Taylor placed third with a jump of 4’-6”. 

In long jump, Terrize Mills placed 3rd place with a jump of 14’1.25”, Mason Shirley placed 5th with a jump of 12’1.25”, and in 6th place Braydon Brock with a distance of 12 ‘1.5”. In the 8th grade long jump, Ian Morgan, Nolan Durrett, and Bryson Smith competed well, but didn’t place. 

In the pole vault for 7th grade boys, Makson Allred placed 1st, clearing a height of 6’. For 8th grade, Ponder finished 1st and 2nd with Willie Norwood clearing 7’ and Landon Hardin clearing the height 6’ -6”. 

7th grade boys on the shot put team threw for good distances. Noah Long placed 3rd with a throw of 28’-9”, he was very close to finishing second. Ezequiel Sandoval finished in 6th place throwing a distance of 25’-3”. Two 8th grade boys finished in the top 5. Ashtyn Castillo placed 2nd with a throw of 35’-3 ½”, he was out of 1st place by 2 feet. Blaine Turner placed 5th place with a distance of 30’ 6 ¾”.

In the 7th grade boys discus Ezequiel Sandoval placed 2nd throwing a distance of 76 ft and 4in, and Noah Long placed 6th with a throw of 54 ft and 3.5in. 8th grader Kasey Holt placed 6th, throwing a distance of 73 ft and 7in. 

 

Ponder had a strong showing in the running events. In the 7th grade 400 m run Ponder placed 2nd and 3rd. Jorge Alejandre finished 2nd with a time of 1:08.83 and Eduardo Carillo placed 3rd with a time of 1:09. In the 8th grade 400m run Kale Jones placed 1st with a time of 1:02.20 and Ian Morgan placed 3rd with a time of 1:04.45. 

In the 300 m hurdles for the 7th grade boys, Rhyder Dugger placed 1st with a time of 50.12 seconds, Greysen Fox finished 5th, with a time of 1:06.44 seconds. In the 8th grade, Mason McShan placed 2nd, with a time of 52.23 seconds and Noah Adams placed 6th, with a time of 56.57 seconds. 

Makson Allred placed 1st in the 800 m run with a time of 2:32.36 Jordan Weiland placed 5th and his time was 2:57.69 and Kyle Perryman placed 6th. The 8th grade boys did really well in the 800 m run. Corban Gragg received 4th place and Willie Norwood placed 5th.

 In 7th grade 1600m run, Makson Allred placed first with a time of 5:48.90 and three places behind Makson in fourth was Jordan Weiland finishing in 6:44.39. For 8th grade Taylor Weiland placed second with a time of 6:05.27. In third place was Hayden Long with a time of 6:07.85. John McEwen placed fourth with a time of 6:32.35.

 7th grade boys in the 4×100 m relay did great, they placed second with a time of 54.10. Mason Shirley,Terrize Mills, Gage Ersch, and Braydon Brock competed for 7th grade. In the 8th grade boys 4×100 meter relay Noah Adams, Shawn Taylor, Jonathan Arellano, and Ian Morgan ran with a time of 52.51, placing third.

 In the 100m dash the boys who competed in 7th grade were Mason Shirley and Tyler Riggs. Mason Shirley placed 2nd with a time of 13.43, Tyler Riggs had a time of 14.21 and finished 4th. For 8th grade boys, Kale Jones, Ian Morgan, and Jonathan Arellano competed. Kale Jones finished 2nd with a run of 12.85, Ian Morgan placed 3rd with a time of 12.88, and Jonathan Arellano ran a time of 13.56 finishing 6th. 

In the 4×200 relay the 7th grade boys placed 2nd. The contestants were, Gage Ersch, Terrize Mills, Luke Arnold, and Braydon Brock. They were only 4.02 seconds away from beating Sanger. 8th grade boys finished in 3rd place. The runners were Nolan Durrett, Shawn Taylor, Bryson Smith, and Jorin Roberts with a time of 1:56.41. 

In the 200m dash for the 7th grade boys Eliazar Briano, Luke Arnold, and Trysten Williams competed. Eliazar Briano placed 4th with a time of 30.59, Luke Arnold had a time of 30.99 and placed 5th. Trysten Williams placed 6th with a time of 31.98. In 8th grade Bryson Smith and Nolan Durrett ran. Bryson Smith placed 3rd with a time of 28.12 and Nolan Durrett placed 6th with a time of 28.74. 

The 2400 m run with the 7th and 8th grade boys did very good. Both grades ended in first for their run. The 7th grade boys finished in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. 1st was Hunter Ishmael with a great time of 25:22.02 and second was Leom Bergara with a time of 25:40.74. 3rd place with just a minute short was Tyler Nickell, with a time of 26:14.75. The 8th grade boys ran very well too. The first place runner was Taylor Weiland, with a time of 9:29.05. With a super

close second was Hayden Long with a time of 9:34.57. The last runner from Ponder placed 5th place with a time of 10:10.56. The 2400 ponder runners ran very well. 

In the 7th grade 110 M Hurdles, Ponder placed 1st and 3rd. Ryder Dugger placed 1st, with a time of 21.35 and Greysen Fox placed 3rd, with a time of 23.12! 

In the 4×400 relay both the 7th and 8th grade boys placed 2nd. The runners who competed in the 7th grade 4×400 relay were Mason Shirley, AJ Reyes, Braydon Brock, and Mackson Allred. The 8th grade competitors were Mason McShan, Jonathan Arellano, Taylor Staton, and Kale Jones. The 7th grade time was 4:35.06, and the 8th grade time was 4:15.34. 

Ponder Lions really pushed themselves during this race. Makson Allred placed 1st in the 800 m run with a time of 2:32.36. Jordan Weiland placed 5th with a time of 2:57.69 and Kyle Perryman placed 6th with a time of 3:00.68. 

The 8th grade boys did really well in the 800 m run. Corban Gragg placed 4th place, with a time of 2:39.34 and Willie Norwood placed 5th, with a time of 2:40.77. 

In the 7th grade 110 meter hurdles, Ponder placed 1st and 3rd. Ryder Dugger placed 1st, with a time of 21.35 and Greysen Fox placed 3rd, with a time of 23.12. In the 8th grade 110 meter hurdles, Ponder placed 4th and 5th. Claetyn Moore placed 4th, with a time of 21.75. Noah Adams placed 5th with a time of 22.00

Overall, All of the competitors did a fantastic job, and let’s look forward to next week’s track meet to get ready for district.
